Fuji Pro Neg Hi

Fuji Pro Neg Hi (Pro Neg. H) shares the same portrait-oriented DNA as Pro Neg Standard but with a notably higher contrast and slightly more saturated rendering. Skin tones remain flattering and natural, but they carry a bit more warmth and richness — a touch more depth in the reds and oranges without tipping into the exaggerated. Shadows are deeper and more defined than Pro Neg Std, giving images a greater sense of dimensionality and presence, while highlights still roll off smoothly without harsh clipping. Colors have more punch overall — greens feel slightly more alive, blues a bit more assertive — but the simulation never crosses into the vivid territory of Velvia; it remains fundamentally a film stock about rendering reality with polish rather than drama. The increased contrast makes it more versatile than Pro Neg Std across a wider range of lighting conditions, performing well not just in controlled studio settings but also in open shade or overcast outdoor light where the added depth helps prevent images from feeling flat or lifeless.
